Referrals and Placement
We have completed the referral and placement process, and all new parent workshops. From 174 referrals, 165 students were placed for 2020. It is pleasing to be able to place this many students. We had 4 not appropriate referrals. From the remaining 170, we placed all pre-primary and year 1 students referred. We have 2 kindy students not yet placed. 168 students were offered a place with 3 parents not accepting the placement. We continue to place the most students each year across all Language Centres.
Assessment and Data Analysis
We are working very diligently on examining the collective student data. We have spent two staff meetings looking at listening comprehension and social skills. On Wednesday November 27th we have a school development day (no students attend that day) when we will be looking at code cracking skills (decoding and spelling), reading comprehension, writing and maths. The final staff meeting is about narrative. A summary of the findings will be in this year’s annual report.
It is a very busy term for all staff as they complete some assessments, work on end of year reports and complete transition letters that will be sent to mainstream schools. We will be holding a workshop for all parents of students transitioning back to mainstream schools at both our Padbury and Poseidon sites in the library. Parents will be informed of the date. Quinns and East Hamersley parents can attend either of these sessions. The focus will be on what you can do to support the
smooth transition back to mainstream school. There will be time for some questions. The deputies hope to see you there.
Although the end of the school year is drawing nearer, it is not too late to pay your Voluntary Contributions. 71% of Kindy parents have paid with pre-primary (69%) and year 1 (62%). We need to report to The Department of Education Central Office and Treasury the percentages collected. These contributions enable us to provide additional resources that supports your child’s learning. If you have simply forgotten to pay the Voluntary Contributions, please see payment options and banking details towards the end of this newsletter.
