Poseidon Campus – Pre Primary Term 4

Poseidon Pre Primary A

It has been a busy and enjoyable start to term 4 in Pre-Primary A. We are learning to tell the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and have practised acting it out using masks and props. We made delicious porridge just like the 3 bears and wrote a procedural narrative of the steps we took. Did you know that we are doing lots of writing this term so that we are confident writers for year one?

In History, we are learning about different family structures including our own. We made family trees and some of us were very surprised to learn that our grandparents are actually our parents’ mums and dads! We are also learning about different celebrations and how these are celebrated within families. Mrs Ravichandar taught us all about the festival of Diwali. We did Bollywood   dancing, drew Rangoli patterns and tasted a delicious Indian treat to celebrate. We can’t wait to learn about Christmas and Hanukkah later this term!

In maths we are learning to use ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc) and are extending our understanding of patterns. We have started looking at big numbers on the 100 frame and finding interesting patterns in those numbers. We will also keep practising addition and subtraction using lots of different hands on materials.

Last Thursday we participated in Outdoor Classroom Day. We explored natural materials through a scavenger hunt, maths games and making “journey sticks” (sticks with found objects tied to them) which we used as a prompt for retelling stories of our adventure.

Last week, we participated in a ‘Messy Mud’ incursion and a ‘Water Fun’ day, both of which allowed us to get very wet, sticky and muddy!

We just can’t wait for the rest of term 4!

Poseidon Pre Primary B

Welcome to the Pre-Primary B newsletter. This term we are learning about families and exploring different celebrations. We celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, we danced to Bollywood music, and wore bangles and Bindi on our forehead. We drew Rangoli patterns on the ground with chalk and ate taste treats that were prepared by Mrs Ravichandar’s mum. We will be celebrating Hanukah with Miss Shulman, and learning about Christmas too. We also had lots of fun with our ‘outdoor classroom’ day where we went on a scavenger hunt around the school and we worked through our list and played a bullseye games with water and sponges.

For Mathematics this term, we are revisiting and revising all the concepts we have learnt this year, and we are learning new skills when we play board games.

In History this term, we started off with a discussion on the types of families, and the different structure of families. We talked about our family tree, and things we do with our family. We spoke about our grandparents, and if there were special stories that has been passed down from generation to generation. This is linked to our new Literature Based Unit, ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’. Also linked this to term’s Biological Science, we looked at the concept of ‘bear’, at the various semantic concepts and our knowledge of bears, and we then did some writing describing bears: their body parts, colour, size and category.

Students participated in ‘Messy Mud’ day and our ‘Water Fun’ day last week. We have our Science Incursion and end of year class party still to come!
