Book Week

The Padbury campus is celebrating Book Week this week. Don’t forget that children are invited to dress up on Thursday 19th November as a book character. Thank you to Mrs Giltrow, author of BEDTIME, DADDY! for volunteering her time this week to read her wonderful story to the students.

Exiting Students

Thank you to Year One parents for letting us know what school your child will be exiting to for next year. We are currently sending exit letters to mainstream schools with information about the LDC and suggested strategies to support your child in their new class.

An online Transition Workshop for parents of exiting students will be uploaded onto the school website this term, and parents will be sent the link. This will give you information about how to best support your child in their transition to mainstream.

Year One teachers will meet with parents at exit interviews in week 10. Teachers will organise the date and time for your meeting with you.

New Transportable Building

You may have noticed a new building near the Padbury staff carpark. This is additional office space for the LDC. Our main office is still the point of contact for parents and students. Our Kindy class are learning about transport this term and enjoyed watching the trucks and crane install the new building and footpath.

Thank you to Ms Danika and Ms Slater for the wonderful Art incursion for NAIDOC week. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme was Always Was, Always Will Be, recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Ms Danika and Ms Slater shared their knowledge of the six Noongar seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. Students painted on canvas to create six large paintings depicting the seasons. The colourful art will be displayed around the school.

Poseidon and Quinns Beach Deputy News

It has been a very busy term with lots happening. The water fun day was a great success. Lots of people have sent their money in already which is great. There is still time to get yours in if you have not done so already. The Scitech excursion for the year one children at both Poseidon and Quinns is coming up soon. I know the children will have a fantastic time and learn a lot about our planet as well as explore the general Scitech interactive display.

I have seen some fabulous written work from the children in year one at Quinns. They are generating their own stories and putting so much effort into their written work. The teachers are so proud of them and the children are proud of themselves too.

The year is coming to an end very quickly and before we know it, we will be in the last week of school. Some year one children have been spending a little bit of time at their new schools which has been lovely. It can be a bit daunting for some, so this may be helpful to reduce any anxiety about moving. Another good idea is to go to the new school on the weekend and if possible have a walk around and familiarise your child with the campus. Some schools have fences which would make that a bit difficult, but a walk around the outside is ok too.
