East Hamersley Deputy News

We’ve had a couple of wonderful events occur this term that our children have enjoyed being a part of. On the 3rd of May the Westoz wildlife conservation team came to East Hamersley to talk to the children about the importance of looking after our native flora and fauna. All LDC students were able to interact with several Australian animals, including having a pat or cuddle of a koala. I know that our children really enjoyed the visit and were extremely well behaved and respectful around the animals.

Today, 26th May, East Hamersley Primary held their annual Cross-Country event. The Year 1 LDC class participated with enthusiasm in this event and had some wonderful results. Lachlan Jeffries came 1st, Maxwell Burrell 2nd and Evander Singh 4th in their age group. Amazing running and terrific sportsmanship was shown by all our Year 1s.

The well-deserved Year 1 honour certificate recipients at the Friday 28th May assembly were Michael McCallum, Lachlan Jeffries, and Mason McNeill-Mathis.

Just a reminder that our next school development day is Tuesday 8th June and the children do not attend school that day.

We thank families for your patience while we have had construction works around the school. The new footpaths have now been installed. The bathrooms in “A” block are nearly at completion. I would like to acknowledge the Pre-primary and Year 1 students who have demonstrated wonderful responsibility in moving around the school while the works have taken place.

As the winter season is fast approaching we are already seeing unwell students at school. Please ensure that you keep your child at home if they are not well. Parents will be phoned to collect children who are sick. This ensures that the health of other children and staff in the class is not compromised. As students are now wearing jumpers/jackets to school, please ensure these are labelled with your child’s name.

The Mother’s Day stall and raffle were highly successful. Thank you to families for your generosity and support. The P&C raised over $1200 in total.

Classroom teachers have relief staff in from time to time to teach the class. This enables the class teacher to complete tasks such as assessments. The relief teachers follow the class programs and routines to ensure consistency for the students.
