Deputies News – Week 6 Term 3

East Hamersley Deputy News

Book Week

Book week at East Hamersley has been an absolute delight. The parade on Wednesday the 25th saw both the Pre-primary and Year 1 students dressed as their favourite book character. Thank you, parents, for putting in such a great effort to dress up your child. Some students even made their own costumes. Now that is amazing!

In our parade, we saw Cat in the Hat, Peter Rabbit, a Lego man, a Transformer, a Very Hungry Caterpillar, Batman, pirates, a ballerina, a firefighter, a soccer player, Harry Potter, a doctor, a lion, Buzz Lightyear and so many more.  Thank you to the teachers and assistants who also joined in with the mood of the day by dressing up. Mrs Boyd dressed as the Rainbow Fish, Mrs Vladich was Wilfrid Gordon’s Grandmother, Mrs Nolan was also a granny and Mrs Acott was a sweet fairy. The winners of the book prize for each year are Year 1, Ridhi Parihar and Euan Beaton, Pre-primary Boady Newton and Riley Chapman. Congratulations to you all.

Don’t forget to check out the window displays around the school that depict stories or books that the students have read.

Sports Carnival

Our children have been practising over the past weeks for the school Sports Carnival. The carnival will be held on Friday 27th August. Results of this will be in the next newsletter. Go, kids, go!

Parents, please remember to pack extra water, sunscreen, and a hat for your child to be sun smart for the carnival. Each child is to wear their faction shirt and running shoes. I will see you all there at the starting line.

Padbury Deputy News

The School Development Day in week 4 was focussed on raising Aboriginal cultural awareness. Professional learning increased staff understanding of Noongar culture, values and family structure. Staff will be implementing further strategies in the classrooms to encourage the development and knowledge of Aboriginal culture.

We would like to thank Mrs Sharon Giltrow, a teacher at our Padbury campus and author of the story book “BEDTIME, DADDY!” for volunteering her time to read her book to classes this week. The story is about a little bear who is trying to get his daddy to bed. Check out some photos below. Please note that the Padbury campus of the LDC will celebrate Book Week in term four, and you will receive information next term about a dress-up day.
