Deputies’ News – Term 4 – Week 6

East Hamersley Deputy News

Year Parent/Caregiver Meetings

The Year 1 parent/caregivers’ meetings are on Tuesday the 7th of December. I have already posted a SeeSaw message and the timetable is attached. If you are unable to attend your allocated time, then you may want to ask another parent to swap with you. However, please let Mrs Vladich know if you have done this. I will also be attending most of the meetings, I look forward to seeing you all then.

Year 1 Excursion to Kings Park

The children from all our sites are very excited about their excursion to Kaarta Koomba – Kings Park on Friday the 10th December. A reminder if you have not paid for this to do so as soon as possible.  Please remember to make sure your child has sunscreen on, a hat and a full drink bottle as we are assuming it could be hot. It’s going to be a great day for everyone.

Classroom and office move

We are having a classroom and office move for 2022 and we have started this process. If you need to come into my office to speak with me, please excuse the boxes and the disarray that our areas appear. It will be all in order ready for the beginning of next year. The last week of term will be disrupted slightly and the Pre-Primary children will possibly be working in the Kindy room on the Wednesday and Thursday of that week. I will let everyone know, via SeeSaw, closer to this date exactly what is happening.

Transition for Exiting Students:

For children exiting the LDC this year, thank you to parents for letting us know your child’s 2022 school.  This week, we are sending Exit Letters to mainstream schools with information about the LDC and suggested strategies to support your child in their new class next year.

Some parents have organised transition days in the mainstream school for this term. Ensure you let your child’s teacher know if your child will be attending transition day/s.

Information on how you can support your child’s transition to mainstream is on our website.

Follow the link below to the video (approx.30 minutes):

Transition to Mainstream

Year 1 teachers will meet with parents at Exit Meetings in Week 9 of this term.

Sun Safety:

Families, please ensure your child has a protective hat at school each day, labelled with their name. Students are encouraged to drink water throughout the school day, and on particularly hot days, they are encouraged to play in the shade. So, please pack a named water bottle each day.

Term 4 Incursions & Excursions:

Pre-primary students thoroughly enjoyed the Eco-Action incursion last week, learning all about ‘mini-beasts’ and their contribution to our ecosystems.

Kindy students will be visiting MacDonald Park next to the school, over the next couple of weeks. They will be using the amazing scooter/bike track as part of their learning about transport this term. It is a great place to learn about road safety including road signs and pedestrian crossings. Year 1 students will be visiting Kings Park on Friday 10th December, to learn about the Noongar culture and spend some time in nature. A note has been sent home to all Year 1 families. Please return the permission slip to school.

School Development Day:

Next Wednesday 24th November is our School Development Day. Students from the LDC do not attend school on this day. Staff will be analysing school data in the areas of reading, writing and maths. We will also discuss key focus areas for next year, based on the data.

Quinns Beach Deputy News

Wow, I can’t believe that we are already in Week 6 of Term 4. We have had a very busy term this term, with collaborative events such as the colour run. Quinns Beach Primary School raised a total of $12,000 from the donations of the Colour Run. This is a huge achievement and we all had so much fun on the day. It was lovely to see the teacher, students and parents of both schools, all be a part of such a wonderful event.

In Kindy, Mrs de Visser has been taking care of some silkworms. The students have had the opportunity to watch the lifecycle of these insects. I have seen many scientific explorers around my travels armed with a magnifying glass. The immersive learning that the students have been a part of has been wonderful to watch, with their beautiful smiles, and new vocabulary, they thoroughly enjoyed watching the insects grow and change.

In Pre-Primary, we have had Bunnings come out as an incursion and supply the materials for them to make XXX. The students thoroughly enjoyed this free incursion and were highly engaged in hands on activities that supported their comprehension of following instructions. Thanks to Mrs Walters for organising the morning.

The Year 1’s will be off to Kings Park on Friday 10th December. We will be meeting all of the Year 1’s from across all four sites at Kings Park. This will be a fantastic experience and a fabulous way to ensure that we support our students to develop respect and empathy for diversity in our community.

As part of our whole school development we will be spending the up and coming School Development Day, Wednesday 24th November, reflecting and analysing data from student achievements. A reminder that there will be no staff or students on site on this day.
