Deputies News- Term 2 Week 9

East Hamersley Deputy News

Trent, a year 1 student from our East Hamersley campus was lucky enough to be selected to play footy at half time during the Eagles vs Geelong match last Saturday at Optus Stadium with his Coolbinia Bombers teammates. It was a very exciting experience to run out onto the oval and even get a few kicks and hand passes in.

Padbury Deputy News

It certainly feels like Term 2 has flown by. NAIDOC Week is coming up in the school holidays from 3rd July to 20th July. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. As a lead up to NAIDOC week, and as part of their learning at school about Aboriginal culture, classes will attend a Wanjoo workshop on Friday 24th June.  Children will learn original Noongar language and songs, with a focus on the importance of keeping Noongar language and culture alive. Wanjoo is the Noongar word for ‘welcome’.

We are looking forward to our Term 3 Dance program for Pre-primary and Year One students. Miss Dorothy’s Dancing classes will take place from weeks 2 to 10 of next term. The purpose is to develop skills, creative expression and performance through dance, linked to The Arts, Health & Physical Education curriculum. Please note that permission and payment is required by 29th June.

On Friday 1st July we are having a ‘Pyjama Day’ and raising money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The Foundation helps children of all ages with disability, injury or illness. It is a non-profit organisation that provides social and emotional support for sick children. Students are encouraged to wear their pyjamas to school on the last day of term and bring in a gold coin donation. Staff are also looking forward to wearing their cosy PJs!

Student Achievement Reports will be uploaded to Connect in week 10 of this term. We will send a message to parents to let you know when the report is available to view. If you are unable to log into your parent Connect account, please contact the office on 9407 3050.

I wish all families a relaxing school holiday break. We look forward to seeing our students back with us on Monday 18th July. Stay safe and well.

Poseidon Deputy News

It has been a busy time at Poseidon, with Report Writing, incursions and sporting events. The students, staff and parents had a wonderful time at the Poseidon Primary School cross-country event last Wednesday morning. The students all tried their very best and we were very proud to have so many WCLDC students on the winners’ podium!

We were very fortunate to see Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, perform live last Friday, at the ‘Wanjoo Incursion’. Through their beautiful music, they focused on the importance of keeping Noongar language and culture alive. A shout out to Mrs Rowlett for organising this very worthwhile incursion.

We are all looking forward to the ‘Veolia’ Recycling excursion on Thursday 23rd June, which will develop students’ awareness and understanding of the impact of waste on the environment and our part in creating a more sustainable future.

The last week of school term will be a busy one, with the Year 1 Edu-dance performance on Tuesday 28th June at 12.30pm, and ‘Naidoc Week’ celebrations planned for Friday 1st July. There will also be an Assembly at 8.30am on the Friday, to which parents are invited.

Semester 1 Student Achievement Reports will be available online in week 10 this term. Please contact our main office at Padbury on 9407 3050 if you are having trouble logging on to your Connect account.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for welcoming me in my new role as Deputy and look forward to working with you all next term.
