East Hamersley Deputy News
Welcome parents/caregivers to the start of 2022, let’s hope that we have a year without too many worries about Covid. I’d like to thank all the East Hamersley LDC staff for creating nurturing and calm learning environments within their own classes. I have met most of our new parents/families at last year’s new parent meeting or in the playground or by the class doors. I am looking forward to getting to know you all better over the year.
As I have walked around our campus the students seem settled, and I have been met with many enthusiastic smiles and greetings. We are always trying to encourage our students to greet adults and peers in a friendly manner, to use their names (recipient) and to look directly at the person they are speaking to. It would be very helpful if you could also reinforce this at home. I know this can be tricky with the mask ruling but have a go.
The teachers have been busy testing all our new students so that they can plan for their academic success this year. You will all receive your child’s individual learning goals later this term. This will give you a very clear indication of what teachers will be explicitly working on with your child.
As you know we are ready for online learning if the need arises, and I urge you all to make sure you are connected to your classroom teacher via the Seesaw app. I will also be communicating via this platform during the year to keep you updated about general school information.
A reminder that even though we are co-located at the East Hamersley Primary School, our office is based at Padbury and all phone calls need to be directed to that office on 9407 3050. I can assure you that the office staff at Padbury will contact us very promptly to relay any messages.

We welcome all new and returning families to the LDC this year. Students have settled into their new classes well. Teachers have been busy helping the children learn the rules and routines of the classroom and playground. It is great to see many smiling faces throughout the school day.
Thank you to parents and caregivers for your support of wearing masks on school grounds and dropping children off at the classroom door in the mornings. Students have handled this very well. Most parents have accessed Seesaw, which is the main platform for classroom communication. The Pre-primary and Year One teachers have been uploading class information (PowerPoints or videos) to Seesaw, as we weren’t able to conduct class meetings in person. Please join Seesaw if you haven’t already done so.
As a school we follow the ‘Crunch & Sip’ program for Pre-primary and Year 1 classes. This is a set break (on top of recess) during the school morning to eat a healthy snack, such as fruit or vegetables, and drink water in the classroom. This promotes healthy eating and gives students the chance to re-fuel to improve concentration in the classroom.
Duncraig Senior High School provides canteen lunches to students at the Padbury site on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. To place your orders, go online to http://www.flexischools.com.au and register an account. If you experience problems, please call Flexischools on 1300 361 769.
Please continue to be vigilant in keeping children home who are unwell. If a child becomes unwell during the school day, we will contact parents to collect them. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
If, at any time throughout the year, you have questions or need to speak to the teacher about any aspect of your child’s schooling, I encourage you to message the teacher on Seesaw. At this time teachers and speech pathologists can have phone or online meetings.
