East Hamersley Campus Kindy – NAIDOC Week

We’ve been looking at books with art by aboriginal artist Bronwyn Bancroft in kindy, then found one of her pictures that started with the same sound as our names and then did a dot painting on paper bark. To celebrate and recognise the traditional landowners for NAIDOC week.

Padbury Campus – PPB

During our 2020 NAIDOC celebrations PPB and PPC went to the art room to learn about Indigenous culture. First we learnt about the 6 seasons next we learnt about how Indigenous people find food in the bush and finally we painted with sticks, grass tree stalks and paintbrushes. We all had a terrific time.

The Pre Primary’s at Padbury were lucky enough to have a special Farm Incursion to start off their final term. We have been learning all about living and non-living things, so this was a great incursion for us to get close with different kinds of farm animals.
Farmer Mick came and shared his knowledge and love of animals.

We learnt all about a day in the life of a farmer and we were even lucky enough to hold some baby chicks and feed some very hungry goats. The children were very confident and gentle with the animals and it was great to see everyone happily engaged.

We have had a busy and enjoyable start to term 4 in Pre-Primary B at Posiedon. We are learning to tell the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and have practised acting it out using masks and props. We made delicious porridge just like the 3 bears and wrote a procedural narrative of the steps we took. Did you know that we are doing lots of writing this term so that we are confident writers for year one?

In History, we are learning about different family structures including our own. We are also learning about different celebrations and how these are celebrated within families. We have talked about how some families celebrate festivals like Diwali and Channukah. Soon we’ll be starting Christmas crafts and learning about how families celebrate Christmas.

In maths we are learning to use ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc) and are extending our understanding of patterns. We have started looking at big numbers on the 100 frame and finding interesting patterns in those numbers. We also keep practising addition and subtraction using lots of different hands on materials.

On Thursday 5th November we participated in Outdoor Classroom Day. We explored natural materials through making “journey sticks” (sticks with found objects tied to them) which we used as a prompt for retelling stories of our journey. Last week, we had a water fun day with lots of fun slides, paddling pools and activities.

We just can’t wait for the rest of term 4!
